Mapping of social innovation initiatives in Spain
The Spanish partner in the BuiCaSuS consortium – the Ministry of Social Rights and Agenda 2030 – has published their mapping of the social innovation ecosystems in Spain.
The working paper follows the methodology and conceptual framework developed in an earlier stage of the BuiCaSuS project. The initial findings had been presented to and discussed by Spanish stakeholders from different regions and profiles.
Structure of the working paper
The working paper is structured in five chapters
The first chapter gives an introduction into the theoretical assumptions and the methodology applied.
The second chapter inquires into the policy framework, specifically into legal provisions, sub-national action, financing, recent initiatives in the context of the EU recovery facility, specific support structures to social innovation promoters, and research.
The third chapter presents three cases, namely the Basque Getxo Zurekin project focussed on community based end-of-life accompaniment, the Rural Care cluster that seeks to provide quality care in home-settings in depopulated areas of Rural Spain in the Region of Castilla y León and the Barcelona initiative of Vila Veïna which promotes community activation around early life and elderly.
The fourth chapter distils some of the findings and assesses bottlenecks and drivers of social innovation that were found across the cases.
The fifth chapter provides conclusions and gives some outlook.
An annex gives a colourful run-through to a variety of social innovation initiatives that had been gathered during the research phase.
Departing from this diagnostic, further steps are expected on how social innovation can be fostered in the future in a more systematic manner, by both private and public actors.
